Exercise and postprandial lipid metabolism.

چکیده
Energy expenditure and fat oxidation are both profoundly increased in exercise. In absolute terms, fat oxidation is greatest during exercise of moderate intensity (60-65 % maximum 0 2 uptake, vo2,,) when subjects following a mixed diet may oxidize between 0.3 and 0.7g fat/min, rFpresenting up to 60% of energy expended (Saltin & Astrand, 1993). Because the capacity of muscle fibres to synthesize fatty acids de novo is limited (Saggerson er al. 1992), the bulk of fatty acids has to be supplied from extracellular sources. It is likely, therefore, that postprandial lipid acquisition by muscle will be modified during and/or after exercise.

Exercise and Dietary-Mediated Reductions in Postprandial Lipemia
Postprandial hyperlipemia produces long-term derangements in lipid/lipoprotein metabolism, vascular endothelial dysfunction, hypercoagulability, and sympathetic hyperactivity which are strongly linked to atherogenesis. The purpose of this review is to (1) provide a qualitative analysis of the available literature examining the dysregulation of postprandial lipid metabolism in the presence of ob...
متن کاملInfluence of acute exercise with and without carbohydrate replacement on postprandial lipid metabolism.
Acute exercise, undertaken on the day before an oral fat tolerance test (OFTT), typically reduces postprandial triglycerides (TG) and increases high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). However, the benefits of acute exercise may be overstated when studies do not account for compensatory changes in dietary intake. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of acute exercise,...
متن کاملEffects of prior moderate exercise on exogenous and endogenous lipid metabolism and plasma factor VII activity.
Moderate exercise reduces postprandial triacylglycerol concentrations, which are a risk marker for coronary heart disease. The present study sought to determine the qualitative nature of exercise-induced changes in lipid metabolism and their association (if any) with changes in factor VII activation. Eleven normotriglyceridaemic men, aged 51.7+/-6.1 years (mean+/-S.D.), participated in two oral...
متن کاملDoes prior acute exercise affect postexercise substrate oxidation in response to a high carbohydrate meal?
BACKGROUND Consumption of a mixed meal increases postprandial carbohydrate utilization and decreases fat oxidation. On the other hand, acute endurance exercise increases fat oxidation and decreases carbohydrate utilization during the post-exercise recovery period. It is possible that the resulting post-exercise increase in circulating nonesterified fatty acids could attenuate the ability of ing...
متن کاملDietary, physiological, genetic and pathological influences on postprandial lipid metabolism.
Most of diurnal time is spent in a postprandial state due to successive meal intakes during the day. As long as the meals contain enough fat, a transient increase in triacylglycerolaemia and a change in lipoprotein pattern occurs. The extent and kinetics of such postprandial changes are highly variable and are modulated by numerous factors. This review focuses on factors affecting postprandial ...
